Incorporating Links to Full Text Articles into Blackboard Courses.

IP controlled databases that can allow links to individual articles

Note: Examples can be seen of the Bernhard Library Course in Blackboard.

Proquest:

Copy the URL at the article level, log into your Blackboard account. Go to Control Panel. Choose Course Material and then External link. Follow the directions to paste in the URL and label the file. Once you submit it and approve it, the article will be an active link. This procedure can also be followed for Infotrac, Access Science , and Bio One.

EBSCOHOST databases such as Psycarticles and CINAHL. Call up the article you want to link. Choose Citation. Near the bottom of the screen, you will see an URL for a persistent link. Copy that. Log into your Blackboard account. Go to Control Panel. Choose Course Material and then External link. Follow the directions to paste in the URL and label the file. Once you submit it and approve it, the article will be an active link.

JSTOR:

View the article, Click on Citation/Stable URL at the top of the screen. Choose Stable URL. Copy the URL given and paste it in to Blackboard as a resource.

CQ Researcher

When you call up an article, you must choose View/Toolbards/Address bar. When the URL is visible, copy it and add it to Blackboard as a resource.

Unregulated article sources

PubMed.

There are now more than two million PubMed citations with links to free full text. To find them, go to

Off campus access to Controlled Library Databases

WebVPN.

WebVPN must be used when students want to access these online materials from off-campus. To do that, they just need to go to https://quvpn.quinnipiac.edu/webvpn.html (links are available on the library's frequently asked questions page, and the main page of Qcat). They validate using their normal login and password for email or Blackboard, and they will be able to use all databases in the library. Once they've got the WebVPN/Bernhard Library screen, they can use the dropdown to activate Blackboard. Once they've done that, any IP-regulated link in a Blackboard course will work wherever they are. Again, if they are on campus, they don't need to use WebVPN.

CITRIX

A second option is to navigate to https://citrix.quinnipiac.edu and log in using the normal campus names and passwords. Click on the Internet Explorer icon. Once there, your machine is considered to be on campus - so you can just open Blackboard and all of the IP-controlled links will work.

One more e-reserve solution -Xanedu

Xanedu, a division of Proquest, has set up a scheme to create online course packs for you. When you set up the coursepack, you may either browse through the hundreds of thousands of articles and book chapters in their library, or request something from an outside publisher. When you do that, they will contact the publisher, secure the copyright clearance, digitize the work and mount it in the coursepack. The only expense is to the students who buy the coursepack for a cost of $40 to $70 dollars, depending on the number of articles. More details are at www.xanedu.com.
