A Welcome from the Program Committee

Dear Participants:

This year’s meeting will feature 16 panels, including one keynote speech, two round tables, two plenary sessions, a special session about Persian Arts, and ten panels focused on a variety of current topics.  We would like to express our deep gratitude to University of Central Florida, especially the Political Science Department and College of Arts & Sciences, for sponsoring our meetings.  Special thanks are due to the American-Iranian Council, under the leadership of Dr. Hooshang Amirahmadi, who has made it possible to plan for this year’s program. We are also honored to have Professors Shireen Hunter (Center for Strategic & International Studies, Washington, DC) and Farhang Rajaee (Carleton University, Canada), two renowned Middle East specialists, join us.  Their presence at our meetings demonstrates the commitment of the Western scholarly community to the continuing dialogue and exchange of knowledge with their Iranian counterparts.  Professor Shireen Hunter will speak on the “Iran: Adjusting to the Post-Soviet Era,” and Professor Farhang Rajaee will share his thoughts with us on “Globalization on Trial: The Human Condition and the Information Civilization.” We thank you for coming to this year’s meetings.  Some of you are attending CIRA meetings as “regulars.”  Others are here for the first time.  We welcome all of you, and thank you for your contribution to the intellectually vibrant community of CIRA.

Sincerely,
