Nominations and Elections for General Manager
Election proceedings for General Manager will begin the second or third week in February. Qualifications for the position include:
- Must be a present active member with at least three semesters of active involvement, defined by regular attendance of meetings, participation in station activities, and compliance with station rules and regulations.
- Must maintain a 2.25 cumulative grade point average.
Speeches and elections for General Manager will be held one week after nominations. The votes will be counted by the current General Manager and one of the station's advisors. In the case of the current General Manager running for re-election a member of the Student Government executive board will take his/her place in the vote counting and on the General Manager Election Review Committee.
Subsequent to the station election, the winning candidate will be interviewed by the current General Manager, the station faculty advisor, the student activities advisor for WQAQ, and a representative from the Student Government Executive Board. Unless the Election Review Committee, through the interview process, has any reservations in regard to academic standing or experience and ability to fulfill obligations, the result of the station election will stand. The final decision will be given to the current General Manager by the selection committee by the first week in March.
Given the extraordinary circumstance that in the judgment of the Election Review Committee, the candidate is academically deficient, and/or incapable of fulfilling duties, the said person will be informed and a re-election will be held with the remaining candidates.
Nominations and Election for Management Staff Positions
The Management Staff election will take place only after the General Manager has been selected. Nominations for the positions will be at the next scheduled meeting after public disclosure of the newly elected General Manager. Speeches and election will take place one week after nominations. Qualifications for these positions include:
- Must be a present active member with at least one semester of active involvement, defined by regular attendance of station meetings, participation in station activities, and compliance with station rules and regulations.
- Nominees for Management Staff positions may only run for two positions at one time and may ultimately be seated in only one of these positions.
The votes will be counted by the current General Manager, the newly elected General Manager, and one of the station's advisors. In the case of a returning General Manager a member of the Student Government Executive Board will take part in counting the votes.
Change of Officers
The newly elected officers will take office on the last official day of the spring semester. The newly elected officers will serve as apprentices under the outgoing Management Staff between the time they are elected and the beginning of the office term. All members of the outgoing management staff are required to turn over all WQAQ records to the new Management Staff by the last official day of the spring semester.
Resignation
In the event that a member of the Management Staff finds that he/she is unable to perform his/her duties, they must submit their resignation in writing to the General Manager. The duties of a position must not be abandoned until resignation has been accepted and becomes effective, or at least until there has been reasonable opportunity for it to be accepted. Notice of the vacancy will be given to the members of WQAQ. Nominations for the position will be held at the next scheduled meeting following the notice. Elections for the position will be held one week after nominations. A 2/3 majority vote of membership is needed.
Impeachment/Probation
An officer not performing his/her duties, failing to conduct himself/herself in an orderly and responsible manner, may be subjected to probation for a designated period decided upon by the Management Staff. If during this time the officer in question has not improved the officer will be reviewed for impeachment. A 2/3 majority vote of the Management Staff and the membership (including Management Staff) is needed to impeach an officer. After impeachment new nominations and elections will be held as stated above.
