CCALD PROJECTS

Faculty Reciprocal Borrowing

Faculty reciprocal borrowing agreements were revised and attention was directed at development of an informative brochure that would encourage faculty participation. Representatives from several design firms made presentations regarding development of these promotional materials. Presently, 27 of the 32 CCALD members participate in this program.

Vendor Speaker Program

Vendors whose products interested CCALD members were invited to demonstrate their products and to discuss licensing and consortial pricing arrangements. Representatives of Blackwell North America, Information Quest, NELINET, OCLC, Ovid Technologies, and H.W. Wilson Co. were featured at meetings this year.

Vendor Pricing Arrangements

There was a shift in CCALD policy regarding consortial pricing arrangements with vendors. CCALD will continue to offer assistance in collaborative product negotiations and purchasing. However, if improved pricing can be secured through arrangements with other consortia (e.g., NELINET), members should not be constrained by arrangements that were initiated within CCALD.

CCALD Web Page Migration

The CCALD Web pages were relocated to a server at Quinnipiac College where they can be presently accessed (URL: invictus.quinnipiac.edu/ccald.html).

Organizational Archives

CCALD organizational documents for 1993-98 will be archived in September 1998 at the University of Connecticut (Storrs). Organizational documents deemed worthy of retention by the Executive Committee (or their designee) will be added annually to this archive.

Consortial Alliances

In order to further advance its organizational mission, the Council has joined the International Coalition of Library Consortia (ICOLC).

Internship Programs

A Committee was established to develop a framework that would enable CCALD to serve as a clearinghouse for both regional MLS student internship rotations and LTA student placements at participating member host sites. Representatives from the Palmer School of Library and Information Science ( Long Island University ) participated in the April meeting and shared with CCALD members their experience in managing a successful internship program.

Special Recognition

Rensselaer at Hartford Library Director Barbara Vizoyan was recognized with a inaugural CCALD certificate. A plaque acknowledged her exceptional "contributions to resource sharing, assessment, outreach and grantsmanship."

CCALD Distance Education Survey

At the urging of members, Barbara Vizoyan developed a questionnaire to survey the library services available for distance education students at Connecticut institutions of higher education. Survey results are available to CCALD members from Executive Committee members or by contacting Ms. Vizoyan (barbara@mstr.hgc.edu).

Bylaws Revision

The Bylaws were revised to reflect member approval of CCALD Emeritus Status. CCALD members who retire from their member institution may be nominated for Emeritus status. Dr. Kenneth Walter of Southern Connecticut State University was the first to receive emeritus standing.
